Scholarship Under Attack

HELP PEFNC IN OUR CONTINUED MISSION TO EMPOWER PARENTS THROUGH SCHOOL CHOICE

Friends and supporters, you know you're making a difference when our naysayers continue to attack, even when we know we're on the right side of important issues.

That's evident in our state right now regarding an incredibly impactful program that supports low-income families across North Carolina. Since 2014, the Opportunity Scholarship Program lifts students up by providing low-income families (from every county in our state) with a scholarship that helps them afford the private school of their choice. Educational equality, for thousands of families, unfortunately is not an option without the Opportunity Scholarship.

So, who could be against that?

Here’s the sad truth: The answer is many, including powerful elected officials in our state. Here are a few of the one-sided, biased attacks against the Opportunity Scholarship Program currently being orchestrated by those opposed to school choice in North Carolina.

Governor Roy Cooper called the Opportunity Scholarship (currently helping over 9,600 low-income families across our state) "an expense that we should stop." Click on the video to watch!

And then, recently the media showed their hand once again, with a biased editorial piece from the Capitol Broadcast Company and WRAL. What's worse, they are sharing false information with the public. The hit-piece (available here) repeats a blatant falsehood on state funding for the Opportunity Scholarship Program. When PEFNC reached out to correct the piece, what was their response...

...crickets.

Opponents lost the battle at the NC Supreme Court, where it was ruled constitutional in 2015 so they are now trying to dismantle the scholarship program by eliminating funding.

Remember, he called it "an expense that we should stop." Well, three members of the Senate and four of their counterparts in the House have the Governor's back on that. This group wants to gut funding for the program, while over 8,000 NEW families are currently applying for an Opportunity Scholarship. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

Here is the group looking to make good on "an expense that we should stop."
