Back-to-School Season and Parents Fighting For OSP

Apply for AFC’s Future Leaders Fellowship

Deadline: September 1

The American Federation for Children (AFC) has been a longtime friend to our efforts to expand parental school choice in North Carolina. AFC has an incredible program called the Future Leaders Fellowship. It is designed to identify and develop tomorrow’s leaders in the educational choice movement, those who can speak best to its urgent need and potential: the men and women who credit school choice for changing their lives.

Did you know that North Carolina’s one Amoree Brown is a current member of the AFC Future Leaders Fellowship? Go Amoree!

This one-of-a-kind, yearlong program develops the next generation of school choice champions through expert-led training in communications and policy. Fellows also engage with elected officials and receive extensive professional development and networking opportunities, equipping them for a career in public policy.

A FUTURE LEADERS FELLOW IS SOMEONE WHO IS:

  • A graduate of a publicly funded K-12 school choice program or a private school choice recipient;
  • A high school graduate who is at least 18 years old;
  • Available to travel at least three times during the program year for a period of 2-3 days each; and
  • Willing to share their story and be a voice for educational choice.

Fellows receive a stipend for participating and expense-paid trips to Washington D.C. and three other locations across the country.

Applications are due September 1st

Let's Talk Education

"There is a reason why [parents] feel that this option is more effective for their family, and they are able to voice that."

Last week, Kwan Graham of PEFNC was in Fayetteville for Let’s Talk Education with local leaders, elected officials, schools, and engaged citizens discussing education and school choice.

Kwan, alongside the panel, explained what the Opportunity Scholarship is, how it works, how families can benefit from the program, and other education options in our state.

Nobody knows NC parents like Kwan. She’s a tireless advocate for helping parents navigate their educational options in our state. You can listen to her and the full panel conversation if you are curious to hear more!

Parents Rally In Raleigh to Encourage the Clearing of the Opportunity Scholarship Waitlist

"Let's get this done!"

Late last month, families across North Carolina gathered at the General Assembly to persuade legislators to clear the 55,000 students on the waitlist for an Opportunity Scholarship.

We got some great words from Rachel Brady, who helped organize the parent rally at the NC General Assembly. It was great to see all the families who came out and thank you to those who support this grassroots movement!
