Thousands rally for parental school choice

 Thousands of supporters across New Jersey ralled at that state's capitol recently for legislators to support the Opportunity Scholarship Act, which would allow low-income and working class children from the state's lowest performing school districts to receive scholarships to attend private school.

DPI extends deadline for regular public charter school applications

The state Department of Public Instruction announced today that the deadline for regular applications to start a public charter school has been extended from February to April.

No exact date has been given as of yet.

Applications for the fast tracking process - those who can demonstrate the ability to open a public charter school by August 2012 - are still due by Thursday, November 10, 2011 at noon.

Study shows Florida tax credit program linked to increased student achievement

A new study from the National Economic Research Bureau found that students who particpated in the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program have had improvements in reading and mathematics, relative to students who applied for the program but remained in public schools. The study, released in August, is based on an analysis of 2009-10 achievement data.

BREAKING NEWS: Special needs measure to become law at midnight

RALEIGH (June 30, 2011) – History will be made for thousands of children across North Carolina on Friday when House Bill 344 (Tax Credits for Children with Disabilities) officially becomes law.

Gov. Beverly Perdue released a final list of bills under her consideration this afternoon, which included a statement saying that she will not sign House Bill 344. This means the bill will become law at midnight.
