RALEIGH, NC (Oct. 25, 2007) – Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina (PEFNC), the Milton and Rose D. Friedman Foundation and North Carolina Representatives teamed up yesterday to address the state of the education system in North Carolina. Concerns over the rising dropout rates prompted Representatives Earline Parmon (D) and Paul Stam (R) to join the discussion on how to improve North Carolina public schools.

Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina, in conjunction with Milton and Rose D. Friedman Foundation, will bring together North Carolina officials to discuss the findings of a recent study documenting the public costs of North Carolina’s high school dropouts. Former state GOP Chairman Ferrell Blount (R) and Greenville City Council members Rose Glover (D) and Mildred Council (D) will provide government perspective on the educational system and how parental school choice may benefit the public by increasing graduation rates.

Over 1,000 unite to demonstrate support for school choice

RALEIGH – Last night, over 1,000 North Carolina parents, children, legislators, community leaders and clergy met to express their desire to have more choice in their children’s education. The event was led by Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina and featured a keynote speech from Dr. Howard Fuller, a nationally-renowned activist who founded the Black Alliance for Educational Options and helped usher in Milwaukee’s school choice program.

The event, which will be held at the Upper Room Christian Academy in Raleigh on March 6th, demonstrates the growing demand among North Carolina parents for more options in their children’s education.

RALEIGH – Today, Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina invited thousands across the state to visit its new website.  The site not only provides the general public information about the new organization but also serves as an educational tool on parental choice by educating visitors on the various school choice programs across the nation; by defining terms often associated with school choice; and by making the public more knowledgeable in providing copies of recent school choice reports, research and publications.
