Shrink achievement gap through educational choice

There is no way to get around the data. To date, North Carolina public schools have shown a significant achievement gap for low-income and minority students.

Although preliminary statewide results show that more schools made adequate yearly progress (AYP) after retests were counted, the achievement gap remains a serious issue in Asheville City Schools, according to a recent news story from the Asheville Citizen-Times.

It remains to be seen whether other school systems will show similar test score disparities, but aggregate test performance and student demographics should be available this fall.

In the meantime, we're offering a solution to Asheville City Schools: shrink the achievement gap through choice in education.

As long as the NC State legislature is control by Democratic Party we will have a cap on Charter Schools and other school choice options. The Boards of Education do no thave control of this issue. The State controls these issues. President Obama, a Democrat, calls for more charter schools and his own party in NC goes against him on the issue of education. Charter Schools are public schools and follow state requirements. They schould also receive equal state funding. The number 20 high school in the country is Raleigh Charter, according to U.S. News and World Report .
