Orange County Schools defend denial of autistic services

It seems that passing the Special Needs Tax Credit bill would have saved North Carolina’s public schools a lot of money and bad press.  Just ask the Orange County School System.  Yesterday, the OCSS released a statement defending their recommended education plan for Owen McWhirter, a child with autism, and the system’s decision to appeal a state court’s decision that ruled in favor of the McWhirter family.

One thing will never change – parents will want what is best for their children, and some will fight for it. With the way court decisions are going, a Special Needs Tax Credit program would have saved public schools from costly legal battles that put them at odds with parents and taxpayers.
